Welcome to N Scale City, a blog dedicated to model railroading, urban design, architecture, and public transportation.

My name is Kenneth. I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, and now reside in Charles County, Maryland. I have been collecting model trains, buildings, and accessories for more than twenty years, and in 2022 I finally began building the N-scale layout I had envisioned for decades.

N Scale City is a fictional modern metropolis inspired by the great cities of North America and the transportation systems that connect them. Through this blog, I will document the layout’s growth and share my experiences in track planning, city building, structure construction, scenery, photography, and railroad operations.

One of my goals is to help introduce a new generation to the model railroad hobby. For much of my life, I was often one of the youngest people involved in model railroading. Today, in an age dominated by screens and digital entertainment, I believe the hobby still offers something special: creativity, problem-solving, craftsmanship, and the satisfaction of building something with your own hands.

N Scale City is also a family project. My elementary-school-aged daughters often help me work on the layout, and together we use it as a way to explore how cities are planned, how transportation systems function, and how communities grow and develop.

Whether you’re a lifelong model railroader, a returning hobbyist, or someone discovering the hobby for the first time, I hope you’ll find inspiration here.
